He was a great and profound writer. I have read The Gulag Archipelago (all the three volumes), One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Battle of Tannenberg and the play The Prisoner and the Camp Hooker or The Tenderfoot and the Tart.
He shall be missed by literature lovers and political writers alike. A great loss that can never be filled.

"One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" is an extremely powerfully written story. I accidentally read it when I was in college because one of my classmates left the book in my room and that book got me hooked to reading actually. I have also read a part of the Gulag Archipelago. I am sad he is no more.

he was a brave person who stood up to the communist dictators and wrote what he felt was right..... i guess it takes a lot of courage to do something like this in a barbaric regime..... i guess he was lucky not to have been killed or sent to the gulags.

I am so happy that Solzhenitsyn outlived the Soviet Union that imprisoned him. This is perhaps the sweetest justice that he got. However I am not sure if he enjoyed the last few years of Russia under Putin. He is behaving like his old Soviet bosses.

Desert,
I haven’t read any of Solzhenitsyn, but I will definitely try to read his works.
Many a great writers have influenced and documented political histories. They are truly guiding lights and inspiration.
I saw your blog. It is rich in content. Maybe you can submit those entries as articles here for wider circulation...

He was a great writer. He was indeed one of the greatest writers of the Twentieth Century. Great writers are generally not liked by regimes of the kind Soviet Union was under. And great writers are not afraid to put their lives in harm's way. Alexander Solzhenitsyn did exactly that and paid a small price for what he got in return from the entire world.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was undoubtedly one of the bravest people in this world. Not only he was a great writer, he was one of the very few who could have defied the might Soviet autocracy by writing against the system being inside the country.
Great loss for the literary world.
